Since the Steam page for Pinecone Grove went live, one of the first questions we received was:
“Will Pinecone Grove be available on macOS?”

Today, we can finally give you an answer: Yes! Pinecone Grove is officially coming to macOS. And this is a version we’re particularly happy to be making.

A little Mac story
For us, Mac gaming has always been a little special. When I was a kid, we had one computer at home. It was my dad’s Mac. There was no Windows PC sitting next to it, so if I wanted to play a game, the Mac was what I had.

That also meant that finding games was sometimes a bit of a challenge. The selection was smaller, and you quickly learned that not every game you saw or heard about was actually available for your computer. But that never made me stop looking. Quite the opposite. Finding a game that *did* run on the Mac always felt a little bit more special.

That’s probably one of the reasons we’re particularly happy that Pinecone Grove will be available on macOS.

There’s something else that makes it feel like a natural fit. We’re developing Pinecone Grove on Macs ourselves. We spend our days building the game on the very machines that we’ll eventually be playing it on. So bringing Pinecone Grove to macOS wasn’t just a technical checkbox for us. It felt like the natural thing to do.

Built for Mac
This week, we built the first Mac version of Pinecone Grove and started playing it on our own MacBooks.

Pinecone Grove runs natively on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs, with no Rosetta required. And just like on PC, you get the same pixel perfect look and feel.

We’re using the Godot Engine to build the game, which made bringing Pinecone Grove to Mac a relatively small step rather than a project of its own. We’re very happy about that, because cozy games have always felt like a natural fit for the Mac, and Pinecone Grove is no exception.

Our current plan is to release the macOS version alongside the PC version, so Mac players won’t have to wait for a separate release.

macOS System Requirements
The current requirements for Pinecone Grove on macOS are:

OS: macOS 11 Big Sur or later
Processor: Apple M1 or Intel Core i5
Memory: 4 GB RAM
Graphics: Metal capable GPU; integrated graphics are sufficient (Apple M1 GPU, Intel HD Graphics 4000 or newer)
Storage: 500 MB available space
Additional notes: Universal build, running natively on Apple Silicon and Intel. No Rosetta required.

These are our current expected requirements and may still change slightly as development continues.

Coming alongside the PC version
We’re really happy that Pinecone Grove will be playable on both PC and Mac from day one.

Especially because, for us, the Mac isn’t just another platform we decided to support. It’s where we’re making the game, and for me personally, it’s also where I first discovered how much fun it could be to search for games and lose yourself in another little world.

So if you’re one of the people who asked us about a Mac version when the Steam page went live, thank you. We heard you.

We’ll share more details about the release as we get closer to launch.

In the meantime, you can add Pinecone Grove to your Steam wishlist to stay up to date with development and the release.

See you in Pinecone Grove, on Mac or PC.
